  My son was admitted to Providence in Hood River and the quality of care was outstanding! They were so caring and professional. His Nurses were informative and compassionate. I was from out of town and they were always asking if I needed anything. The Providers were there keep us in the loop of where his blood levels were and what were the next steps. I can't say enough about this Hospital, just wonderful!

  I have had to go to the ER a number of times to this hospital. It's totally a crap shoot as to how you'll get treated. The doctors and nurses on call could be really good or completely awful. Several times I was treated well enough, but I went in recently with an anaphylactic reaction - swelling in my mouth and my face and eyes. I didn't look pretty. The doctors were pretty good, but while I was in the cubicle alone a nurse (NOT the one who'd been working on my case) suddenly ripped open the curtain, stared at me and then coldly said, "I have to find something in here." She stepped behind me to a cabinet and started randomly shoving things around. Meanwhile she left the curtain completely open to anybody passing by. Behind her came a male nurse, a few seconds later. He looked me over and then joined the first nurse at the cabinet where they whispered and giggled. Not long after that a second male nurse joined them. Same thing. A long stare and then joining the others at the cabinet. Whisper whisper. Giggle giggle. After a few minutes of this the female nurse strides out of the cube without a word (and with nothing in her hands) nor a backward look, and leaving the curtain still wide open to the world. The male nurse followed her, just the same. Then finally, a few seconds after that, the second male nurse leaves, but he looks at me as he goes, looking as if he's about to burst into laughter. I scowled at him and snapped "Hey, can you please shut that curtain." He snickered. "Sorry" he says and pulls it shut before he goes. The doctors came back a while later from looking at tests and said they would just have me stay there awhile (they'd given me some IV steroids earlier) until the swelling started to go down. So I sat in that cube for awhile until they came and gave me the OK to leave. Those three nurses were sitting together at a nurses station I had to walk past to leave. All three of them looked at me and whispered and giggled at me as soon as they laid eyes on me. It was probably the single most unprofessional incident of treatment I've ever gotten from any kind of medical provider. Ever. I probably should have reported them right then and there. Instead, I'm doing this. I've had some good treatment at providence, but I (and numerous of my friends and family) have had enough garbage like this - and worse - happen that even though I live within 5 minutes of the joint, I'll be trying to do any needed "hospitalization" in The Dalles or White Salmon from now on.
